So far I have 3 elite choices for my ultramrines painted and ready to go. Firstly I have my veteran squad which I tend to use as a command squad as well. But are space marine veterans really worth the extra points? If you had asked me this whilst the 4th edition 40k rule book was out I would of said ‘no’, but with the 5th edition rulebook there definitely worth the extra points. The great thing about veterans now is that you can give them additional traits such as tank hunters and ferocious charge, which can be in some games invaluable. So by combining those abilities with a special character and transport and the enemy really has a problem on their hands. I usually put my veterans in a land raider, just to make sure they get into the thick of the action.
My next elite choice is a must in any space marine players force, so not only do I have 1 but I’ve got 2 ‘dreadnoughts‘ in my army. Both of my dreadnoughts are armed with power fists and assault cannons, so as you can tell they are my hard hitting hand to hand combat units.
The next unit I plan to add to my elites is a squad of terminators, which I will use to accompany my librarian in terminator armour.
