As we know all armies need a transport capability. For space marine players that’s either in the form of rhino’s, razorback’s, drop pods or the mighty land raider. The land raider by far is probably the best transport vehicle in 40k. Not only can it transport 10 space marines or 5 terminators, it also has enough fire power to wipe out entire units or destroy enemy tanks. Combine all that with 14 armour all round and your opponent has a serious problem on their hands.
For my land raider I wanted it to look special, but still keep within the theme of my army. Firstly I added a radar to the top of the land raider to denote that it was the primary command vehicle. For the paint scheme I kept to the traditional ultramarine colours, but to really finish off the model I added banners to all the lascannons which really help to highlight the command value of the tank.

My Ultramarine Elites
So far I have 3 elite choices for my ultramrines painted and ready to go. Firstly I have my veteran squad which I tend to use as a command squad as well. But are space marine veterans really worth the extra points? If you had asked me this whilst the 4th edition 40k rule book was out I would of said ‘no’, but with the 5th edition rulebook there definitely worth the extra points. The great thing about veterans now is that you can give them additional traits such as tank hunters and ferocious charge, which can be in some games invaluable. So by combining those abilities with a special character and transport and the enemy really has a problem on their hands. I usually put my veterans in a land raider, just to make sure they get into the thick of the action.
My next elite choice is a must in any space marine players force, so not only do I have 1 but I’ve got 2 ‘dreadnoughts‘ in my army. Both of my dreadnoughts are armed with power fists and assault cannons, so as you can tell they are my hard hitting hand to hand combat units.
The next unit I plan to add to my elites is a squad of terminators, which I will use to accompany my librarian in terminator armour.

Where to begin?
Well seeing that this is my first post I better start from the beginning. I’ve been a fan of the 40k universe for over 10yrs now, but I prefer to collect and paint armies rather than fighting with them. So far I have collected 2 space marine armies, 1 chaos space marine army and a tau army.
So lets start with the first army i collected, my 5th company ultramarine army. compared to the space marine armies people are collecting today my ultramarine army is very old school in terms of models. The majority of models in my ultramarine army come from the 2nd and 3rd generation of 40k, but i have included newer ones as well. So far my ultramarine army stands at over 2000pts in strength, but that’s only the models I’ve painted so far. The HQ elements of my Ultramarine army consist of:
Fifth Company Captain Galenus, Master of the Marches (who I have heavily converted from the old marneus calgar model).
And a Librarian in terminator armour
